Editor's Statement
This issue of Paprika examines the binomial rhythm and counter-rhythm, the operations that hack our body-sound fabric, and the radical and generative possibilities of the dissonant. The ability to find beauty in the dissonance and syncopation of blurred boundaries reveals alternative worlds we could inhabit when we refuse predetermined categories. This issue’s essays explore this syncopated relationship between beats—the canon, the tectonic, the universal, the White—and offbeats—the marginal, the queer, the Black, and the disabled. By intertwining the verbal and the non-verbal, they explore the temporalities and spatialities of sonic landscapes. We invite you to dance with us between poems, lyrics, setlists, drawings, reviews, peoples and their bodies.
